Last week I finished the scene where Estelle is surprised to meet Toby, the hunky biker, at Goldman University, and she learns he studies Engineering. In the next Chapter, she meets him again under unusual circumstances. First, leading up to their meeting, I’ll give you a glimpse into her secret life as Super Starrella with her winged mare, Rockette.

Flying with Rockette a few nights later, Starrella spotted the shadow of a giant mantis swaying back and forth against a moonlit brick wall. In the dark alley below, the crisp footsteps of a lone woman echoed faintly. The intended victim peered from side to side, nervous, yet unaware of the terror lurking above her head.
Rockette,” Starrella warned.
Seen it,” spreading her wings, the mare glided down towards the mantis. Her silent descent brought them within ten feet before the mantis noticed.
It lunged for the flying mare.
Focusing her energies, Starrella shot a beam of fire at the huge insect. It screeched, clawed at its head and dropped into the darkness of the alley. Meanwhile, the pedestrian had trotted round the corner into the safety of the well-lit main street.

  2. Nicely ambiguous. Yes, she saved the pedestrian, but does the woman know that, or might she think Starella was the attacker?

Good thing for the lady that Starella and Rockette were so quick to deal with the danger. Ugh, giant insects, shudder.

  9. That was fun! Did the pedestrian have any clue about the danger? I'm also wondering if Starrella is nervous about this flying and swooping thing or if she's settled into it and enjoys it now. Good excerpt!

  13. Oh now that was a very different kind of monster. Interesting snippet. I like Rockette, but then again, horses are my passion so I'm bound to like them regardless.
