Escape into the wilderness - Snippet from RISHALT for #WeWriWa

Welcome to another Sunday with Weekend Writing Warriors. Meet writers in various genres and read 8-10 sentence snippets of their stories. Find a new author and sample their work. Enjoy!

Here’s the next snippet from Rishalt, Book 2 of Taxyon Space. In May, I hope to introduce you to my WIP.

Blurb
Dr. Nikki Bell is devastated when the Watchers reappear without her alien lover. Why did Kiron return to his home planet without even leaving a message? In search of answers, Nikki jumps at the chance to join the diplomatic team invited to visit the aliens’ home world. On Rishalt, she must contend with the intricacies of Warrish society and an undercurrent of hostility.
Kiron Arqin Ramis is summoned home by his family to the unwanted honor of a new triad and union with a high-ranked female. Unable to forget Nikki, he endures a perilous exile on a wilderness planet instead of complying with his family’s demands. But, the Triarchs have other plans for him.
Stakes are higher than the lives of two individuals. Earth leaders are desperate to acquire the aliens’ interstellar technology, while Warrish dispute the benefit of an alliance with inferiors. Can Nikki and Kiron pierce the barriers separating them to find happiness with provoking an unequal war?

Following the conventions of Warrish society, Kiron’s parents have betrothed him and his brother to young women of superior rank. Unfortunately, Kiron would prefer the “primitive Earther” Nikki. He was given three days to reflect.
You can read last week’s snippet here –
I have compressed several paragraphs into this snippet.

Kiron paced around the interior of the enclosure, considering his options. If he stayed inside the stockade, he would wallow in misery, regretting Nikki and fretting over his lack of freedom. The ocean did not attract him; he knew its hazards too well. His first triad, his true and voluntary triad, had come here for their purification ritual; their attempt to catch fish had nearly ended in disaster. He must hike over the arid hills rising from the shore and cross a jungle to reach his destination…. the camp he had built with his triad brothers.
After six days, Kiron flipped off the forcefield and tossed his heavy pack over the stockade; he hooked a strap over the top rail, braced his booted feet against the posts, and climbed the fence. Dropping onto the rocky ground beyond the stockade, he looked around warily. Nothing moved, except for the dust devils spinning in the wind. He slung the pack over his shoulders and sprinted toward the range of low hills. Behind him, the forcefield shimmered into life, cutting off his retreat.
