Sapient Species in the Books of the Grand Masters’ Galaxy #SciFi #Aliens

 GM Galaxy

The Grand Masters’ Galaxy is home to myriads of different species, some of which claim to be intelligent.

Comments: This list is by no means a complete accounting of the species in the stories. In some cases, Violet encountered individuals of undetermined species or questionable sapience. For instance, she met several entities in the oceans of AguaSalva, including one that claimed to be the sole member of its species.

Aman-ellans: Bipedal feline/humanoid entities with soft fur of various colors and patterns, and cat-like ears.

Brululians: Crustaceans resembling man-sized lobsters with triangular heads bearing eyestalks, ocher carapaces and many legs. Five genders; two compatible genders are required to produce offspring.

Dragons: Winged reptilian species inhabiting the planet Sythos. Their glossy scales are as hard as diamonds.

Elyrians: Bipedal, slender humanoids who communicate by telepathy. Each Elyrian bears a colored crystal on its forehead.

Flia: Flightless avian entities with brightly colored feathers, beaks and clawed arms. Only females travel off their native planets.

Humans/humanoids: Inhabitants of Terra or the many planets colonized by humans over thousands of years. Occur in a variety of sizes and colors.

Ixioths: Giant insectoids with six red eyes, six legs, and a hump-backed carapace with vestigial wings.

Jangalorans: Monkey-like inhabitants of Jangalore with six eyes, six legs and a puff of a tail.

Maanaans: Giant “metal mushrooms” with a domed hood and short foot/stalk. They communicate by vibrating wires under the hood.

Thoss: Bipedal, tailless reptilian or lizardman.

Umloa’s Brood: Giant amoeba-like entities that can assume protean forms and engulf food or enemies. Communicate via smelly bubbles.

Wistralians: Plantoids resembling giant flowers with three petals, a short stalk, and trailing roots. Communicate by rustling leaves, or emitting scents.

Yelliasts: Entities resemble serpents with three round eyes and three pairs of transparent wings.

Declared Dead - Snippet from Cosmic Wars for #WeWriWa #SciFi Fantasy

Welcome to another Sunday with Weekend Writing Warriors. Meet writers in various genres and read 8-10 sentence snippets of their stories. Find a new author and sample their work. Enjoy!

I’m continuing snippets from my WIP. Cosmic Wars is Book 5 of the Grand Masters’ Galaxy, and continues the adventures of Violet and Athanor Griffin, the super psychic Grand Masters.

Draft Blurb
Grand Master Athanor Griffin has escaped from beyond the Cosmic Rift and he is eager to tackle his enemies - after he has relaxed with Violet and their baby son. Their peaceful family reunion does not last for long. The Council has declared Athanor dead and its members are fighting for his position as Chair. Hordes of bloodsucking Ixioth slavers threaten galactic civilization, and a new enemy has emerged from the alternate universe, an enemy immune to the Grand Masters’ psychic powers. Soon, the dynamic couple are swamped by pleas for help. Athanor swears to crush the insectoid Ixioths and expel the Nulls from the galaxy, while Violet has vowed to save the captive children of Cinerea. Can the two Griffins reconcile their divergent promises, or must they separate to rescue the prisoners and defeat the invading armies?

I’m continuing the first part of the story (unpolished and may change.) Any suggestions to improve my blurb and initial lines are especially welcome.
I’ve skipped a few lines from last week. You can read last week’s snippet here: https://auroraspringer.blogspot.com/2018/05/odd-alien-senses-snippet-from-cosmic.html

A column of pink mist formed in the middle of the room, and quickly resolved into the flower Grand Master, Amarylla Threeleaf. The Wistralian’s three giant petals were tightly furled in a long bud above her short stalk and tangle of brown rootlets.
She opened her petals, wafting the scent of roses. Their translators rendered her greeting, “Griffin Grand Masters, your brilliant presence sweetens sap of Brightness Amarylla.”
A courteous host, Athanor stood to give a formal bow, and waved his hand in a cordial gesture, “Welcome to my castle, Grand Master Threeleaf. I am grateful for your generosity in guiding the Council during my absence.”
Her petals paled, and Amarylla’s leaves rustled, “Absence of Griffin Chair sprouted thorns on Council.”
Sparking blue fire from his eyes, Athanor grunted, “Hades, I guessed as much. Tell us the bad news.”
“After Grand Master Violet blew into the Cosmic Rift, not fifteen Terran days passed before Council declared Griffin dead.”

Odd Alien Senses - Snippet from Cosmic Wars for #WeWriWa #SciFi Fantasy Adventure

Happy Mother's Day!

You can read last week’s snippet here:

Athanor drew Violet to the sofa and slipped his arm around her. “I had hoped for a respite of three or four days after our ordeal across the Cosmic Rift. However, news of my return has already reached our allies. I have received felicitations from old Hanuman Pashtari, and Amarylla Threeleaf wishes to taste my presence.”
Amused by the oddities of alien senses, Violet leaned her head on his shoulder, and suggested, “Mother Tingu must have told them of our escape.”
“By Odin’s eye, she might have waited a day,” Athanor grumbled.
“Don’t blame her; you were missing for many weeks, and we were afraid you were dead, or as good as dead.”
“Brightness Amarylla pleaded her news was urgent, and I’ve invited her to visit us this evening. She can inform us of any significant occurrences during our absence.” His sapphire gaze flicked to Varan, “Assuming our energetic son will go to sleep.”

New Release - Arrival: TITAN by Liza O'Connor #SciFiRom

Escaping imminent death
There were a great many people who didn’t want the colony of scientists to succeed. In fact, they concocted fifteen sabotages to prevent the team from reaching Titan. And due to some extraordinary efforts by the soldiers, the scientists, and the students, and their AI, all fifteen attempts to stop them failed.

The ship quantum leaped into the nearby space of Titan, only the captain of the ship intended to dump all the brilliant teens into space, and torture Colonel Lancaster to death. The remaining scientists and soldiers would have become slaves.  While the captain believed all the students and scientists were safely locked in their tiny rooms, the little bots quickly released them and lead them to the hold, where their animals were being kept. The scientists sent their little bots into ceiling ducts to locate the wiring for the main controls of the ship, so they could take control of the ship from the hold.

Then a bot was sent into the ceiling ducts searching for the scent of Colonel Lancaster. It quickly located the room Lancaster was lock in and unlocked his door. Then the bot moved ahead, checking for dangers, as it led him to the hold.

When Lancaster arrives in the hold, he discovers Scarlett, their fabulous AI, has taken control of the ship and everyone not in the hold is taking a nap.

Arrival: Titan
By
Liza O’Connor
 Blurb
Dangers continue even as the crew of soldiers, scientists, and brilliant teens quantum leap to space near Titan.

Captain Drake has his own agenda, and it doesn’t include Colonel Lancaster, or the students being alive for much longer. Fortunately, the scientists and students are a formidable group to go against. The attempted takeover is stopped with only one death.

When Scarlett lands the ship on the north pole near the methane lake, they discover several sentient life forms. They also learn that the moon, Pan, is actually a ship called the Death Star, mining minerals in the outer rings of Saturn. Even more shocking—Jupiter is not a planet, but a disguised ‘eye in the sky’ watching over the mining interests of a superior sentient planet.

Excerpt
Captain Caesar Drake pointed to a chair. “Strap in and avoid movement.” He then took his captain’s chair and spoke in his com unit. “Prepare for transport, at mark of ten.”

As the numbers counted down on the monitor, Drake glared at Lancaster. “Sorry, but you’re going to have to miss your court-marshal, because destiny awaits me.”

At the count of one, a bright light flashed before Lancaster. He held his breath waiting for reality to return. For a very long moment, he seemed to be in the same instant of time. Then with another flash of light, all seemed normal, except for the image before him.

On the monitor was Titan, a little over seven-hundred and fifty-nine thousand miles away from its massive, ringed planet, Saturn.

Titan, a moon most like early Earth, and now the future of mankind—if they could do what nature had done on its own to Earth. Otherwise, they would simply die here. But they had a chance, albeit slim, to succeed, and that was better odds than those left on Earth.

Given the brilliance of the scientists and kids that were in this ship, Colonel Lancaster believed it possible.

The captain wasted no time admiring their orange fuzzy home or the beauty of Saturn and her lovely rings. Instead, he engaged the engines and headed straight towards Titan. After three seconds, he disengaged the engines and let the ship continue on its own momentum.

“Will that be sufficient?” Colonel Lancaster asked.

His former friend and presently annoyed captain responded. “Are you capable of flying this ship?”

“No, I’m not. However, I do outrank you, so let’s not start a pissing war. Survival will require all of our brilliance. I just wanted you to share your thoughts with me, because you are now a part of this team…unless you had orders to return to Earth.”

Drake sighed. “No. This is a one-way journey. No do-overs. We, hopefully, will have sufficient fuel to search for an optimal landing spot. Otherwise, we’ll land where we can until your scientist can create some form of fuel that this ship can use. Fortunately, the gravity pull is quite mild here. So, we won’t need to waste fuel on landing if we land somewhere that allows for a long runway drift-down.

First lines of the story (unpolished and may change.) Any suggestions to improve my blurb and initial lines are especially welcome.

At home in the Griffin’s Eyrie, Violet’s happiness blossomed in lilac sparks of psychic energy. Her precious family was reunited after their trials in the lands beyond the Cosmic Rift. She sat on the sofa, and watched Athanor crawl around the rug with their baby son perched on his back. Athanor’s long black locks draped over his face like a horse’s mane. His short hair as jet black as his father’s, little Varan giggled and kicked his legs. Only Athanor’s psi tether prevented him from tumbling onto the ground.
Amused by their antics, she joked, “Your horsie is missing a tail.”
Shaking the hair off his face, Athanor smiled at Violet. His eyes blazing with sapphire light, the potent mark of a Grand Master, he pleaded, “Sweet Violet, relieve me of my enthusiastic rider. We must talk of the future.”
