Lovely ladies - Snippet from RISHALT for #WeWriWa #SciFi Romance

Happy Easter or Passover to all who celebrate.
Welcome to another Sunday with Weekend Writing Warriors. Meet writers in various genres and read 8-10 sentence snippets of their stories. Find a new author and sample their work. Enjoy!

I’m still posting snippets from Rishalt, Book 2 of Taxyon Space, but may be moving to another story soon.

Blurb
Dr. Nikki Bell is devastated when the Watchers reappear without her alien lover. Why did Kiron return to his home planet without even leaving a message? In search of answers, Nikki jumps at the chance to join the diplomatic team invited to visit the aliens’ home world. On Rishalt, she must contend with the intricacies of Warrish society and an undercurrent of hostility.
Kiron Arqin Ramis is summoned home by his family to the unwanted honor of a new triad and union with a high-ranked female. Unable to forget Nikki, he endures a perilous exile on a wilderness planet instead of complying with his family’s demands. But, the Triarchs have other plans for him.
Stakes are higher than the lives of two individuals. Earth leaders are desperate to acquire the aliens’ interstellar technology, while Warrish dispute the benefit of an alliance with inferiors. Can Nikki and Kiron pierce the barriers separating them to find happiness with provoking an unequal war?

Kiron has been summoned to his home planet by his family. Note, in Warrish society, adults form triads, units of three men or three women, often siblings. Their families arrange unions (marriages) between the members of a male triad and a female triad. Usually, the Firsts of each triad will form a pair, and likewise the two Seconds and Thirds are matched. Following the conventions of his society, Kiron’s parents have betrothed him to a young woman of superior rank.

You can read last week’s snippet here –
I have skipped to the end of the chapter. Kiron is visiting his brother Bassath after a separation of four years while Kiron served as a Watcher on Europa.
Note: Minor abuse of grammar to fit.

“Now we are comfortable,” Bassath said, “let me show you our future brides.” Flicking his fingers, he displayed the images of the three sisters. “Aren’t the Brisa lovely?” Bassath breathed. “Don’t you long to embrace their lush figures?”
Sipping his wine, Kiron gazed at the elegant ladies. Their beauty only reminded him of Nikki; he yearned to kiss her sweet lips and embrace her supple body. Keeping his tone flat, he said, “As you say, they are lovely.”
“You don’t sound enthusiastic, brother,” Bassath complained. He shot a quizzical look at Kiron’s stoic face, “Have your four years in the masculine enclave of Watchers dulled your appreciation of female company?”
“Not at all,” Kiron attempted to laugh off the insinuation.

Uphold the Family's honor? Snippet from RISHALT for #WeWriWa

In last week’s snippet, Kiron’s six parents informed him of his “superior reward” - “Our noble Triarch Rostras has approved your new triad for union with three of his granddaughters.”
You can read last week’s snippet here –
Note: I have skipped a few lines in the middle and introduced semicolons to fit.

Unwilling to provoke an argument, Kiron mumbled, “I do not wish for a union at present.”
After a minute of stunned silence, Meldrina shrilled, “Outrageous! You must uphold the family’s honor. Wreckage of your first triad led to our disgrace among the elite of Pucklerakt.”
“Urish; it’s true,” his father added in a tone of mild recrimination, “This match is exactly what is needed to restore our tarnished status.”
“Father, I did not cause the destruction of my first triad,” Kiron said, fighting off anger. “Nor did I ruin my second, involuntary triad. Yet, I am loath to enter a third triad without a respite for reflection.”
His dear mother spoke up, “Our son has only just returned from arduous duty on a remote outpost; he needs time to adjust to life on Rishalt.”
“Very well, he may reflect for a triad of days,” Meldrina conceded, “after that period, we expect his answer.”

Tybee Island and Savannah, Georgia #Travel #Nature

Sea at Tybee Island

Tybee Island
Over Spring Break, I stayed on Tybee Island, Georgia, for three days. We walked on the beaches and ate seafood at different restaurants for dinner.

Street View on Tybee Island
Sand Dollar on Beach
Sting Ray on Beach

Savannah National Wildlife Refuge

We visited the Savannah National Wildlife Refuge. We saw a variety of birds, such as white and glossy Ibises, egrets, herons, and an osprey. We found only three alligators. It must be too cold for them.

Our backwater solar system - Snippet from RISHALT #SciFi Romance for #WeWriWa

Kiron has been summoned to his home planet by his family. Note, in Warrish society, adults form triads, units of three men or three women, often siblings. In last week’s snippet, Kiron parents informed him, “We have arranged for you to join the new Gold Helix Triad headed by your brother, Bassath.”
You can read last week’s snippet here – https://auroraspringer.blogspot.com/2018/03/worthy-of-honor-snippet-from-rishalt.html
I have skipped a few lines to give you the crux of the problem (in Kiron’s perspective).

Every minute, Kiron grew more suspicious. Surely, he had not been recalled merely for the sake of a new triad? His parental hexad must anticipate some gain beyond conciliating the brother he had not spoken to in four years.
The attack came from Meldrina as the highest ranked of his parents, “The Triarchs’ favor has garnered a superior reward for you and the Gold Helix. Our noble Triarch Rostras has approved your new triad for union with three of his granddaughters.”
Swallowing his protest, Kiron stared at the wall, oblivious of its mural of a tree with magenta blossoms. How could he mate with another woman when he desired only Nikki? Yet, how could he complain about his family’s arrangements? They had negotiated a match of the highest quality, a superior union in the complex politics of Rishalt. As an alien without a triad, Nikki had no status in Warrish society, and she could never be acceptable to his traditionalist family; she was merely a primitive native of a backwater solar system.

Kiron has been summoned to his home planet by his family. Note, in Warrish society, adults form triads, units of three men or three women, often siblings. In last week’s snippet, he met the fake smiles of his six parents – two birth parents and their triad siblings.

His mother’s First, Meldrina, a tall thin woman with a neat cap of orange scales, beckoned to him, “Son, you have proved worthy of honor. We have arranged for you to join the new Gold Helix Triad headed by your brother, Bassath.”
“Has my brother recovered his full health?” Kiron asked, unsure if he desired to form a new triad so soon after the fortunate dissolution of the Red Arrows. His memories of his abusive First were still too raw, and he had not spoken to Bassath for years.
Wassath, Bassath’s father, exclaimed genially, “Of course my senior son is well. He is eager to see you.”
Kiron bowed. “I shall be happy to speak with Bassath.” That much was true; he could gauge whether his brother favored the new triad and perhaps learn his view of the advantages.

Quickly bending at the waist, he raised his palms to cover his face. The traditional greeting to his family elders gave him a chance to mute his expression of dismay; in his experience, meetings with his parental hexath never ended well. What did they want from him today?
His father, Persiron, stepped forward, arms outstretched, “Welcome home, son. We are proud of your accomplishments on the remote ocean world. The Triarchs have commended you for providing insight on these Earthers.”
Overwhelmed by this unexpectedly favorable reception, Kiron mumbled an expression of gratitude. Why had he been summoned? Surely, the Triarchs would wish him to work with the Earthers. He tensed, waiting for his elders to provide the true reason for his abrupt summons.
