She is very young: Snippet from Super Starrella for #WeWriWa #Superhero Romance

Welcome to another Sunday with Weekend Writing Warriors. Here, writers in different genres showcase their stories with 8-10 sentences. Join the fun and read our snippets.
Today, I’ll continue the scene from my new release, Super Starrella. Estelle was knocked unconscious in an explosion, and when she woke, she was tied down in a strange place. Read last week’s snippet here: http://auroraspringer.blogspot.com/2016/03/what-is-this-creepy-place-snippet-for.html
It ended with: Voices drifted to her ears from outside her room. They seemed to be discussing her.

“She is very young for the activation.” A woman’s impassive voice, judging by the high pitch.
The gruff voice of a man said, “Can we trust a native like her? Our need is urgent. We are so few and the enemy grows more intrusive.”
Estelle held her breath, intent on listening to the conversation.
A second man said, “She is not the first, nor the youngest. She is nearly eighteen.” The nasal twang hit a familiar chord. The image of his sullen face and black ponytail flew into her mind, Toby, the hunky young man with the motorbike.

Starrella

Blurb
Teen superhero, Starrella, and her flying horse tackle villains in the skies of Atalanta.
The quiet summer before her freshman year turns frighteningly weird after Estelle Wright trespasses onto an Army base. Blown into the air and knocked unconscious, she wakes with a nascent superpower. Not to mention a winged horse with a snarky attitude and a mind of her own.
Back home in Atalanta, a serial killer is targeting the students at Goldman University. Before long she must juggle college classes with sneaking out of the house after dark to battle alien monsters. Estelle’s life is in danger, but who can she trust: handsome Captain Copper from military intelligence, or hunky Toby, the tough gangster with a motorbike? Both men have secret agendas, but falling in love is not in their plans.
Young adult superheroes, quirky animal sidekicks, and a dash of romance enliven this thrilling adventure. Book 1 of the Secret Supers.

Dragon snippet for #SFFSat from Grand Master's Pawn

Welcome to another Saturday of Science Fiction & Fantasy and read snippets exchanged by several writers. http://scififansat.blogspot.com/
Today for a change, I’m returning to an older story, Grand Master’s Pawn, and a scene with the dragon, Ythris, and the human, Violet.

The black dragon stared over the lush swamp, rattled his scales and whipped his tail. His narrow head swiveled toward Violet, and he hissed, “The fight is mine, Vron Violet, do not fire your laser.”
“I understand,” Violet said, biting her lip in a rush of fear for the dragon’s life. The huge Mynothros was even bigger than the gigantic sauropods that once roamed the ferny swamps of prehistoric Terra. Worse, the Mynothros of Sythos was a carnivore with enormous fangs. She offered a condition, “If you are trapped and near to death, I reserve the right to try and save your life.”
Ythris scratched behind his horns and blinked his great eyes, “I agree; life with low status is better than death without honor.”
He glanced back over the fern fringed waters. There was no sight or sound of the great beast. The dragon flapped his wings and hissed, “I will fly over the swamp and roust the great Mynothros from the depths.”
“May fortune favor your battle,” Violet said.
The black dragon swooped low over the swamp, screeching his battle cry. Silence fell, except for the rustle of the wind in the fern fronds. Violet held her breath; where was the Mynothros?
