Masked man - Snippet from Gargoyle Hunt for #WeWriWa #YA #superhero

Welcome to another Sunday with Weekend Writing Warriors. Here, writers in different genres showcase their stories with 8-10 sentences. Join the fun and read our snippets.

Since my WIP(s) is at a rough stage, I am still posting snippets from Gargoyle Hunt, Book 3 of Secret Supers.

Blurb
Danger is the last thing on Estelle’s mind when she visits the University of Oxenford for a summer course. But, mysterious thefts and shadowy figures spur her into action. With Toby five thousand miles away, Estelle and her winged horse must hunt for the culprits alone. Soon they are embroiled in a mixed bag of aliens and ancient magic. Toby’s unexpected arrival throws her into turmoil and spurs events into a climax.

Toby is in London where he met Lord Winterbourne, head of the British Farleons. When Toby left the building, he discovered a short man was tailing him. His casual attempts to shake the tail are in last week’s snippet –
The final sentence was: Time to switch to a different tactic.

Toby stopped in a pub for a curry and a pint of bitter. The short man entered warily and sat three tables away, studiously nursing a glass of ale while hiding his face behind a newspaper. Toby swallowed the last mouthful of curry on his plate and drained his glass. Time to shake off his inept pursuer. Leaving the payment on the table, he scooted round the corner into the men’s room. Once out of sight, he tucked his posh jacket under an arm and switched the color of his nanofabric shirt from white to blue as a simple disguise.
He exited the pub by the back door, stepped into an alley smelling of rotten garbage and trotted to the far end. Halfway to the intersection with a broader street, a bird screeched. Jerking toward the sound, Toby glimpsed a masked man aiming a pistol.
Pain burst down the back of his neck.

    1. It wasn't much of a disguise. It's not the first time he has underestimated his opponents.

  18. Aw crud! Well, that didn't go according to plan at all! I think he needed a better plan, or a better disguise. Hopefully that wasn't lights out for him and he can try to fight back.
