Welcome to another Sunday
with Weekend Writing Warriors.
Here, writers in different genres showcase their stories with 8-10 sentences.
Join the fun and read our snippets.
I am posting snippets from
Gargoyle Hunt, Book 3 of Secret Supers.
Blurb
Danger is the last thing on Estelle’s mind when
she visits the University of Oxenford for a summer course. But, mysterious
thefts and shadowy figures spur her into action. With Toby five thousand miles
away, Estelle and her winged horse must hunt for the culprits alone. Soon they
are embroiled in a mixed bag of aliens and ancient magic. Toby’s unexpected
arrival throws her into turmoil and spurs events into a climax.
By popular demand, I’m
continuing from a scene with a gargoyle in action.
Super
Starrella and her flying horse, Rockette, are fighting a live gargoyle. I have
omitted a couple of lines to fit.
You
can read last week’s snippet here:
Rockette leaped free. Wings
flapping, she circled at a cautious distance from the distorted figure. Its
round eyes followed the flying horse and it raised a knobby fist, ready to
strike. Moonlight shone through a gap in the clouds, lighting the grotesque
head. The creature melted into nothing.
“Gone!” Starrella gasped aloud. “Where the heck did it go?” The flat roof
of the tower was empty.
The mare swished her tail in a
ghostly white fountain. “Don’t care if I
never see that ugly man again!”
This
ends the scene. You can read the first two chapters, including this scene, by

Yikes! It may have disappeared, but I have a feeling they'll see it again. Nice snippet! :)
ReplyDeleteYou are correct!
DeleteI think I approve of the horse's reaction than hers.
ReplyDeleteRockette may grumble, but she's always game for a flight.
DeleteI am with Jessica, that was too easy! I love the change of direction, and the anticlimax, which builds the tension, Aurora.

ReplyDeleteThanks! Of course, she'll have to mislead her friends about her "adventure" since they don't know about her superpower or flying horse.
DeleteI like the way she had her sidekick horse work together -- and the disappearing gargoyle. It will be back!
ReplyDeleteYes. The "flighty mare" is her faithful companion.
DeleteI dunno, I'd expect it coming back soon. ;)
ReplyDeleteThey have a few twists first. This is just the start of the mystery.
DeleteO_o wasn't expecting that, very cool the way he just disappeared. Terrific snippet!
ReplyDeleteWe can't make it too easy to guess!
DeleteIt disappeared? Where? Oh my. Great snippet.
ReplyDeleteExactly what Starrella is wondering.
DeleteI have a feeling they should be worried, though I love Rockette's reaction!
ReplyDeleteThis scene is early in the book, so they have more adventures coming.
DeleteWe haven't seen the last of that "ugly man" I'm sure. Nice visuals, Aurora.
ReplyDeleteOf course. Thanks!
DeleteI agree with Rockette. Sadly, I think that's not the last they'll see of the "ugly man".
ReplyDeleteRockette is sensible at times.
DeleteGreat visuals. Imagine, a gargoyle who can disappear. Very nice snippet.
ReplyDeleteThanks!
DeleteI was afraid it was behind her, but maybe it was the moonlight that defeated it.
ReplyDeleteYou're on the right track.
DeleteWell, at least we know Rockette's opinion!
ReplyDeleteShe certainly speaks her mind!
Deletei have a feeling she will, though. nice scene
ReplyDeleteThanks! yes of course the gargoyle will be back.
DeleteI'm half happy it's gone but I'm afraid it might come back.
ReplyDeleteWell - so much for the story then! lol
