Psychic sisters, Holly and Rosie, get a Letter - snippet from Baswin - #SciFiRom for #WeWriWa

Welcome to another Sunday with Weekend Writing Warriors and Snippet Sunday. Sample the work of a new author. Read snippets of stories in different genres.

I’m posting excerpts from Baswin, the fifth book in my Sci-Fi Romance series, Taxyon Space. The story begins on Earth iabout a hundred years in the future when we have colonies on the Moon and Mars, smaller bases in the asteroids, and scientific stations on Europa and Titan.

Holly Moon is the female protagonist with a psychic talent. She is helping the local detective by scrying for a missing girl.

You can read last week’s snippet at https://auroraspringer.blogspot.com/2021/05/see-where-holly-moon-lives-snippet-for.html

After describing the location of the girl’s body, Holly meditates about her home with her sister, Rosie.

Holly picked up her scrying mirror, intending to restore it to the shelf.

Her senses pricked. A premonition?

She glanced at the mirror.

Colors swirled over the reflective surface and a face appeared. A strange face with chiseled features and an extraordinary sweep of vibrant orange hair curling like a wave over the top of his partly shaved head. A male face, she guessed, despite his unearthly appearance. His eyelids were closed and his expression as calm as if he were asleep. As she watched, his eyes flicked open to reveal startling irises of a golden amber hue. His pupils widened and he smiled at her.

Ten lines and I suspect you’d like a few more:

Who was he? Could he really see her or was he looking at something else?

“Holly. Holly.”

Her sister’s strident call broke into her focused mind. She blinked and the strange vision faded from the mirror.

Rosie burst into the room, waving a beige envelope. Her face glowed with excitement as she cried, “Holly, this letter just arrived. It’s from the Ministry for International Affairs.”

Enclosing the mirror in its case, Holly shook her head in disbelief. “Why on earth would the Foreign Ministry send us a letter?”

“I know. Isn’t it weird? But weird is what we do.” Rosie giggled. “Anyway, the letter’s from the Regional Minister, Mr. Braithwaite.”

Can a psychic woman from Earth find a home among the alien Warrish?

Alien merman, Baswin Kenton Tallis, Second of his Triad, lives on Earth disguised as a human. When the Earth authorities discover the secret identity of his older brother, Bas must flee to the Warrish base in the depths of the Pacific Ocean.

Psychic sensitives, Holly Moon and her younger sister Rosie, were chosen as candidates for Warrish training as hyperspace navigators. The sisters are eager to contribute to humanity’s advance into space. But will they succeed? They must pass a series of rigorous tests and adapt to the alien neuro-implants.

Holly meets Baswin on an island in the Pacific Ocean, but their destiny lies farther away. What obstacles will block their journey to a happy reunion of the Flaming Comets Triad?

  1. Does he see her? Intriguing. I want to know more.

    1. She saw Baswin, the male protagonist, although not in real time.

  2. That was an interesting and slightly nerve-wracking vision. I'm just as curious as to who he was.

    1. Who he is is not a secret. The brothers of the Flaming Comets Triad adopt the distinctive hair style she saw in the vision. The Second brother, Baswin, has eyes with amber irises.

  3. I'm curious to know who was. Curious vision.

  4. Thoroughly enjoying the story! Another great snippet and I share her frustration at being interrupted LOL.

    1. I Like this chapter about Holly better than the first one introducing Baswin. The timeframe overlaps partly with Alarik's story in the previous book, so I have to coordinate events.

    1. This book switches back and forth between the stories of Holly and Baswin, so there are frequent interruptions.

  7. Intriguing! Did he see her? If so, what kind of psychic powers does he have?

    1. You'll have to wait to learn more about him. As will Holly.

  8. Ohh, creepy to have him smile at her like that! I'd be unsettled, to say the least.

  9. Great description! (But she really needs some way to indicate that she's working/scrying to avoid being interrupted.)

    1. Good point. Although she wasn't actually working when Rosie interrupted. The vision of the orange-haired man was a surprise.
