Ocean Depths - Snippet from #ScienceFiction #Romance Grand Master's Mate for #WeWriWa

Welcome to another Sunday with Weekend Writing Warriors. Here, writers in different genres showcase their stories with 8-10 sentences. Join the fun and read our snippets.

Today, I’m continuing the scene on the ocean planet from my new release Grand Master’s Mate. Their adventures on this planet continue for several chapters and they discover the surface of the ocean holds more perils than the deeps. In the next few weeks, I’ll move on to give you glimpses into my WIP.
You can read last week’s snippet here –

The eels dived towards the seabed. Athanor followed, towing Violet by the hand. The agonized shrieks of dying eels clawed into her sensitive mind; cringing, she blocked out their torments.
Lights flickered from the bottomlands. The clustered conical shells of the eels’ submarine city lay smashed and broken. Rumbling threats, amoeboids oozed through gaps in the broken cones of the eels’ houses. All sizes of amoeboids, from scarcely visible dots to giants as large as Callama, nibbled at the dead bodies of the eels.
Stand back!” Athanor gave a mental shout. Violet transmitted his warning and the eels undulated away.

#ScienceFiction Snippet from Grand Master's Mate for #WeWriWa

Welcome to another Sunday with Weekend Writing Warriors. Here, writers in different genres showcase their stories with 8-10 sentences. Join the fun and read our snippets.

Today, I’m continuing the scene on the ocean planet from my new release Grand Master’s Mate. By this stage, the Grand Master, Athanor, has learned not to trust entirely to his powers since their enemies can nullify them. In this scene, he and Violet wear protective underwater suits with air and jetpacks. Amarylla looks like a giant flower with three pink petals and gangling roots. Callama is a clam shell with a central membrane forming a sail.

“Brightness will cling to the outer shell,” Amarylla agreed.
The orange Bollerol slid to the base of the boat and the two halves of the shell closed. Amarylla’s roots coiled around the shell. Tipping on end, Callama sank below the waves, dragging the two Grand Masters and Violet under the water.
Translucent green water surrounded them and lines of bubbles drifted in the wake of the great shell. Strange slow songs of the sea creatures washed against Violet’s senses. The green ocean darkened as they descended farther from the sunlit surface.
As they swam deeper, the quiet waters were threaded with thin cries of terror.
I sense the attackers are below us,” Violet informed Athanor.

To celebrate completion of the Trilogy, Grand Master’s Pawn is only 99c

SRF Brigade Showcase - Grand Master's Mate

GRAND MASTER’S TRILOGY
Welcome to the November Showcase of the Science Fiction Romance Brigade at http://sfrcontests.blogspot.com/p/sfr-brigade-presents.html
Remember to stop by the posts from the other authors.

I am thrilled to announce that I have completed the Grand Master’s Trilogy.
Today, I’ll showcase a longer excerpt from Book 3, Grand Master’s Mate.
Book 1 is on sale for 99c. Buy links are at the end of the post.

Excerpt from Book 3, Grand Master’s Mate:

A small brown dragon popped into view, flying in midair towards Ythris. “Attack on Illoris!” it croaked.
Silence fell within the great hall.
Acting fast, Ythris ordered, “Seltos, peep at the portal station.” The copper dragon vanished.
“My children!” Gullish wailed, clutching at the nearest little Brululians.
“We’ll get them,” Athanor grated, leaving Violet momentarily uncertain whether he meant the attackers or the Brululians on the moon. “Both,” he sent, grabbing her arm.
The rock walled hall disappeared as they spun into the void.
You retrieve the Brululians and I’ll hold off the attackers,” Athanor’s command winged to Violet.
Emerging under the dome of the portal station on the moon Illoris, Violet blinked at the confused melee of the attack. Giant amoeboids rolled over the rocky surface like gobs of gel. One wallith thrashed on the ground, leaking blue blood from its ripped limbs. The second wallith tore pieces from a pale green blob.
Seltos was nowhere in sight. Violet guessed he had scouted the moon and already returned to report to the Black Dragon.
The Brululian Warden reared in front of its cabin in a valiant attempt to protect its babies. Gulpah’s shell was coated in green slime and two of its thin limbs had snapped at the joints and hung useless. Undeterred by the wounds, Gulpah’s large foreclaw pinched into the squirming gel of its assailant.
Athanor shoved Violet towards the cabin. He stood tall, blasting blue psi beams into the attackers. Dodging past the struggling Gulpah and his opponent, Violet dashed inside the cabin and swept the three little Brululians into her arms. She peered outside.
Leaping to Violet’s side, Athanor caught her arm and barked, “I’ll port you to safety.” She grabbed one of the middle limbs of Gulpah and psi surged, flipping Violet and the Brululians into the void.
The great hall of the eyrie appeared around them. Violet released her grip on the Brululians and the shelly little creatures raced to the arms of Gullish and their siblings. She bent over the Brululian to examine his injuries.
Gulpah panted, “My children are safe. I can grow another leg.”
Placing her hands on his shell, Violet poured healing empathy into the Warden.
Reaching a clawed forelimb to the wounded Brululian, Istrelle sang, “Let me aid our brave Warden Gulpah. Save energy for your Griffin.” Stepping aside, Violet sensed the silver dragoness radiate her despised empathy to ease the Brululian’s pain.
Her Griffin, Athanor, had remained on Illoris to deal with the invaders. Shutting her eyes, Violet focused on their resonating crystals and saw through the amethyst he wore. Many transparent amoeboids oozed out of the portal. The coppery Seltos swooped back and forth, ripping into the enemy with his sharp claws. Athanor blasted holes in their membranes; they shriveled and died. More poured through the portal and filled the portal station with their pulsing bodies.
One pushed a metal box and cracked open the lid. Gray smoke billowed from the box.
Port out!” Violet’s thought arrowed to Athanor.
Hades!” Athanor groaned. Their link snapped.
Violet swung to Ythris and cried, “Athanor’s in trouble!”

Snippet from #SciFi Story Grand Master's Mate for #WeWriWa

Welcome to another Sunday with Weekend Writing Warriors. Here, writers in different genres showcase their stories with 8-10 sentences. Join the fun and read our snippets.

Today, I’ll start a new snippet from Grand Master’s Mate. Violet and Athanor are visiting their friend, the Black Dragon, Ythris. Note 1, the Brululians resemble man-sized lobsters. Note 2, I use italics for telepathic exchanges.
