The wake cycle - Snippet from Super Starrella for #WeWriWa #Superhero #Romance

Welcome to another Sunday with Weekend Writing Warriors. Here, writers in different genres showcase their stories with 8-10 sentences. Join the fun and read our snippets.
Today, I’ll continue the scene from my new release, Super Starrella. Estelle was knocked unconscious in an explosion. When she woke, she was tied down in a strange room and heard strange voices discussing her.

The woman said, “Sol Farleon, the girl may wake soon. We expected her to be unconscious for at least twenty four hours, but she keeps rousing and must be dosed back to sleep. Her body requires time to adapt to the transformation. The next cycle will finish in two minutes.”
“We don’t want her to eavesdrop on our conversation. Activate the block and we’ll leave her to your ministrations, Mir Celeste,” the older man ordered.
“I’ll start the wake cycle,” the woman said. Their voices faded. Estelle assumed they had muted the sound in some manner.

 Starrella

Blurb
Teen superhero, Starrella, and her flying horse tackle villains in the skies of Atalanta.
The quiet summer before her freshman year turns frighteningly weird after Estelle Wright trespasses onto an Army base. Blown into the air and knocked unconscious, she wakes with a nascent superpower. Not to mention a winged horse with a snarky attitude and a mind of her own.
Back home in Atalanta, a serial killer is targeting the students at Goldman University. Before long she must juggle college classes with sneaking out of the house after dark to battle alien monsters. Estelle’s life is in danger, but who can she trust: handsome Captain Copper from military intelligence, or hunky Toby, the tough gangster with a motorbike? Both men have secret agendas, but falling in love is not in their plans.
Young adult superheroes, quirky animal sidekicks, and a dash of romance enliven this thrilling adventure. Book 1 of the Secret Supers.

Snippet for #SFFSat from A Tale of Two Colonies

Welcome to the final Saturday of Science Fiction & Fantasy and read snippets exchanged by several writers. http://scififansat.blogspot.com/
I have enjoyed being in this group, reading your contributions and comments, and making new friends. In the past year, I have published the Grand Master's Trilogy (SciFi/fantasy & romance) and started a new series with Super Starrella (superheros, aliens, quirky animals & romance). Very productive, considering  my "day job" as a scientist.
For anyone who wishes to follow my work in future, I have also been posting snippets on Sundays at http://www.wewriwa.com
My snippet today is from an older work, A Tale of Two Colonies. Tiger Lily competes for a place on the next colony ship. This section highlights why she wants to leave the Terra slums.

Lily strode through the grimy subterranean passages to her tiny room, flushed with the success of her performance and indifferent to the hunched figures of the silent passersby. She ignored the group of five ragged youths lounging idly at the corner, until they moved deliberately in her direction.
“Out alone!” one man jeered, clearly believing her to be vulnerable.
“We’ll give you a good time!” another man called with vulgar intentions, reaching out to grab her arm.
She swiveled rapidly, punching him below the belt. He collapsed with a moan.
Two others advanced angrily on her. She leaped at them, aiming a vicious kick. Her target crumpled in agony, clutching at his groin. The third man hesitated, unluckily for him. Her fist thudded against his jaw and he sagged to the ground, unconscious.
One of the two youths, who had hung behind well out of the action, shouted, “Watch out! It’s Tiger Lily; I saw her fight in the arena.”
The other man called, “She’s big trouble, let’s get out of here!”

Description
Fight for freedom. Fight to survive - For refugees from an overcrowded Earth, dreams of a better life on an alien planet transform into a terrifying battle for survival.
Nothing will stand in the way of Tiger Lily's dream of escaping the subterranean slums of Terra and visiting the stars. She enters the fierce competition for a place in the scout team on the next spaceship to the remote planet of Delta, where an earlier colony disappeared. Before the ship departs, the arrival of a mysterious message from Delta suggests that the descendants of the first colonists may have survived.
A risky mission to seek the lost colony exposes the scouts to unexpected attacks, and they encounter a grim warrior in the isolated valley. Has Tiger Lily met her match in the tortured man? Is he leading them to safety or further danger? And who are the real rulers of this strange world?
Do you enjoy exciting adventures with alien encounters? Do you like your science fiction with a dash of romance? Read “A Tale of Two Colonies”, a story of betrayal, survival and hope by indie author, Aurora Springer.

The eBook is FREE from 8th-12th April.

Set her free - Snippet from Super Starrella for #WeWriWa

Welcome to another Sunday with Weekend Writing Warriors. Here, writers in different genres showcase their stories with 8-10 sentences. Join the fun and read our snippets.
Today, I’ll continue the scene from my new release, Super Starrella. Estelle was knocked unconscious in an explosion, and when she woke, she was tied down in a strange place. Read last week’s snippet here:
The final sentence was: The image of his sullen face and black ponytail flew into her mind, Toby, the hunky young man with the motorbike.

What was he doing in this strange place? Curiosity dampened her fears and sharpened her hearing.
The first man asked, “What do you know of this girl, Tobarian?”
“She is paired with a mare as her Farleon companion,” Toby’s twang again. Was his name really Tobarian?
“Excellent! Set her free and watch for her powers to emerge. We need every recruit for our cause.” The man in charge sounded enthusiastic.
