Lovely ladies - Snippet from RISHALT for #WeWriWa #SciFi Romance

Happy Easter or Passover to all who celebrate.
Welcome to another Sunday with Weekend Writing Warriors. Meet writers in various genres and read 8-10 sentence snippets of their stories. Find a new author and sample their work. Enjoy!

I’m still posting snippets from Rishalt, Book 2 of Taxyon Space, but may be moving to another story soon.

Blurb
Dr. Nikki Bell is devastated when the Watchers reappear without her alien lover. Why did Kiron return to his home planet without even leaving a message? In search of answers, Nikki jumps at the chance to join the diplomatic team invited to visit the aliens’ home world. On Rishalt, she must contend with the intricacies of Warrish society and an undercurrent of hostility.
Kiron Arqin Ramis is summoned home by his family to the unwanted honor of a new triad and union with a high-ranked female. Unable to forget Nikki, he endures a perilous exile on a wilderness planet instead of complying with his family’s demands. But, the Triarchs have other plans for him.
Stakes are higher than the lives of two individuals. Earth leaders are desperate to acquire the aliens’ interstellar technology, while Warrish dispute the benefit of an alliance with inferiors. Can Nikki and Kiron pierce the barriers separating them to find happiness with provoking an unequal war?

Kiron has been summoned to his home planet by his family. Note, in Warrish society, adults form triads, units of three men or three women, often siblings. Their families arrange unions (marriages) between the members of a male triad and a female triad. Usually, the Firsts of each triad will form a pair, and likewise the two Seconds and Thirds are matched. Following the conventions of his society, Kiron’s parents have betrothed him to a young woman of superior rank.

You can read last week’s snippet here –
I have skipped to the end of the chapter. Kiron is visiting his brother Bassath after a separation of four years while Kiron served as a Watcher on Europa.
Note: Minor abuse of grammar to fit.

“Now we are comfortable,” Bassath said, “let me show you our future brides.” Flicking his fingers, he displayed the images of the three sisters. “Aren’t the Brisa lovely?” Bassath breathed. “Don’t you long to embrace their lush figures?”
Sipping his wine, Kiron gazed at the elegant ladies. Their beauty only reminded him of Nikki; he yearned to kiss her sweet lips and embrace her supple body. Keeping his tone flat, he said, “As you say, they are lovely.”
“You don’t sound enthusiastic, brother,” Bassath complained. He shot a quizzical look at Kiron’s stoic face, “Have your four years in the masculine enclave of Watchers dulled your appreciation of female company?”
“Not at all,” Kiron attempted to laugh off the insinuation.

  3. Yep. The four years dulled his appreciation of all but one female's company.

  4. I wonder what he's going to do to get out of this situation, or is he going to choose one of the women.

  9. I feel for Kiron too, what an impossible position he's in. His love for Nikki is something alien to his people but how can he get himself out of this situation? Really gripping snippet.
