Forget that Primitive Earther - Snippet from RISHALT for #WeWriWa #SciFiRom

Welcome to another Sunday with Weekend Writing Warriors. Meet writers in various genres and read 8-10 sentence snippets of their stories. Find a new author and sample their work. Enjoy!

I’m still posting snippets from Rishalt, Book 2 of Taxyon Space. Also, I've switched to a new cover.

Blurb
Kiron Arqin Ramis is summoned home by his family to the unwanted honor of a new triad and union with a high-ranked female. Unable to forget Nikki, he endures a perilous exile on a wilderness planet instead of complying with his family’s demands. But, the Triarchs have other plans for him.
Stakes are higher than the lives of two individuals. Earth leaders are desperate to acquire the aliens’ interstellar technology, while Warrish dispute the benefit of an alliance with inferiors. Can Nikki and Kiron pierce the barriers separating them to find happiness with provoking an unequal war?

Following the conventions of Warrish society, Kiron’s parents have betrothed him and his brother to young women of superior rank. Kiron’s brother Bassath has shown him pictures of the lovely ladies. As youngsters, the brothers were close companions, but they have grown apart during the four years Kiron served as a Watcher on Europa.
You can read last week’s snippet here –
Bassath insinuated, “Have your four years in the masculine enclave of Watchers dulled your appreciation of female company?”
Note: Minor abuse of semicolons to fit.

Kiron replied bluntly, “I thank you, but I prefer to choose my own mates.” Would Bassath appreciate his dilemma? He could not decide.
As if he suspected the truth, Bassath asked, “What is the source of your reluctance? Why don’t you welcome this match with the beauteous granddaughters of noble Rostras?”
“I met an Earther woman in the waters of their moon, Europa.” Kiron stumbled through an explanation, “Saved her from death on the ice; we met in secret; she’s sweet and brave, and she became precious to me.”
“You became intimate with a two-breasted alien?” Bassath groaned, “Oh Kiron, you are worthy of a better mate than a primitive Earther.” He gestured to the images. “Our union with Rostras’s granddaughters offers prestige and resources. If you wish, you can bring your Earther woman to Rishalt; give her a landhouse on Pucklerakt, and slip out to visit her without the knowledge of your legal mate.”

  1. That's a great new cover! I guessed his family would not be happy with his choice of mate. I wonder what steps they'll take to change his mind. Nice snippet!

  2. Well that solution isn't going to go over well with the Earther lady in question! Nice view into how his brother thinks though, and more world building. Great snippet!

  3. Interesting that he decided to share his reasons ... and even more so that he was met with at least some understanding rather than outright derision. I wonder if he'll eventually find an ally in Bassath?

    1. Their conversation also implies that relationships do occur outside the traditional bonds.

  4. “You became intimate with a two-breasted alien?” I. Love. This!!! :D

  5. Two breasts? Gross! Lol I have a feeling he’s not going to go for the solution offered.

  6. I like the cover!

Well, he doesn't have the support of his brother, but I think he has his sympathy. Interesting suggestion--but would be completely untenable for Nikki and Kiron--the arrangement to sneak out and see her.

My curiosity is piqued by the two breasted comment. The mating arrangements--the triads and such lead me to wonder if Taxyon mothers have multiple breasts because the give birth to small litters of babies, rather then to one at a time...

    1. They don't necessarily give birth to triplets, although I don't explain about births.

  7. Nice new cover Aurora! Love the scene. "Two-breasted alien" indeed. How generous to allow him to sneak her on the side. I'm sure she'd been thrilled with that offer!

    1. Thanks!
Exactly. Kiron is familiar with "Earther" culture from watching their broadcast entertainment.

  8. Somehow I don't think that solution will be for the best. lol
    Enjoyed the snippet.

    1. No. But, there will be a solution satisfactory to all parties.

  9. Well ... what an offer! It almost sounds as if it's meant sincerely, but I'm sure neither Kiron or Nikki would be happy to agree to that arrangement. I really like the new cover too!

    1. Thank you.
Bassath's suggestion is valid within their society.

  10. Bassath's suggestion is the logical one, but he doesn't seem to understand his brother's emotions.

  11. That is quite a suggestion, probably -or hopefully- not going down well, though. Interesting snippet.

    1. Perhaps it suggests what Bassath would do in a similar circumstance.

  12. Now the brother is suggesting an affair? Bwahaha! Is that common? I feel like that might be common since he isn't being so subtle about such a notion. It isn't going to over well with Kiron or his lady lover I'm sure.
