Welcome to another Sunday
with Weekend
Writing Warriors. Meet writers in various genres and
read 8-10 sentence snippets of their stories. Find a new author and sample
their work. Enjoy!
This weekend, I’m continuing a scene from my latest
release, Cosmic Wars, Book 5 of the Grand Masters’ Galaxy. The Griffins, Violet, Athanor, and their son, Varan, are at
home when their dragon friends visit with their baby, Istros.
You can read last week’s snippet here - https://auroraspringer.blogspot.com/2018/07/the-black-dragon-snippet-from-cosmic.html
The Black Dragon croaked, “We
promised to bring our son to meet your Vron child.”
Her large emerald eyes gleaming,
Istrelle chimed, “We wish to learn of your exploits in the peculiar lands
beyond the Rift.”
“You are welcome in the Griffin’s
Eyrie,” Athanor said in his most gracious tone. Crouching on one knee, he
propped Varan on his thigh and offered his hand to the small dragon.
“Dragon,” the boy squealed in
excitement and clapped his hands.
Istros hissed and retreated a
step, swinging his thin tail in alarm.
Her musical voice full of
laughter, Istrelle sang, “Little Vron will not hurt you. We are friends with
the Griffin family.”
Athanor curled his lips in gruff
amusement, proclaiming with pride, “My son does not fear dragons.”

As always, I’ll be happy to reply to your comments.
Cute meeting between the two kids.
ReplyDeleteYes. Perhaps the beginning of a friendship.
DeleteThis snippet is very cute! I love their interaction! :)
ReplyDeleteOther parts of the story are the opposite of cute. I like variety!
DeleteI just wonder if the boy is old enough to know dragons are, generally, to be feared.
ReplyDeleteProbably not. He's less than a year old and just begun to walk. He talks in single word sentences, but he's seen pictures of dragons.
DeleteLove the reactions in this snippet. It's a lovely bit of writing!
ReplyDeleteOh Thank you.
DeleteSome little kids are fearless. Not always a great thing, as I'm pretty sure dragons are generally to be treated with a healthy respect for teeth and claws!
ReplyDeleteNice bonding moment here that will go far in the future, I'm sure. Nicely done, Aurora!
ReplyDeleteFun scene between the children and parents, very well done snippet!
ReplyDeleteAw, a dragon playmate- lucky kid! At least, I hope so.
ReplyDeleteHe's lucky in many ways.
DeleteHow wonderful to see supposed enemies enjoying themselves together. I hope the kids grow up to be best friends.
ReplyDeleteViolet saved the Black Dragon's life in the first book of the series and they've helped each other ever since.
DeleteI hope the kids live long enough to become friends. Scary and sweet at the same time.
ReplyDeleteThanks. An interesting point.
DeleteThis is sweet, I loved the interaction, especially the baby dragon's description. Well done!
ReplyDeleteThank you. Baby animals are cute.
DeleteMust be pretty brave if he doesn't fear dragons...
ReplyDeleteOr else he's never been hurt. He is used to a friendly cat and another fluffy animal.
DeleteLovely, natural reactions between these two, I could really visualise it, gret scene!
ReplyDeleteThank you. We have pet dogs and cats. Never mind all the other creatures our kids adopted when they were younger.
DeleteLoved the interactions, well put into words.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun snippet. Loved the dragonlet's reaction!
ReplyDeleteThank you. I enjoy writing about the dragons.
