Welcome
to another Sunday with Weekend Writing
Warriors. Meet writers in
various genres and read 8-10 sentence snippets of their stories. Find a new
author and sample their work. Enjoy!
HAPPY NEW YEAR!
I’m still
running snippets from Jupiter, Book 3 in Taxyon Space. Soon, I hope to switch
to my WIP, Book 3 in Atrapako on Eden. This story was selected by the votes of my newsletter subscribers.
You can
read my snippet from last week here: https://auroraspringer.blogspot.com/2018/12/knotted-hyperthreads-snippet-from.html
I’ve
skipped a few lines.
Prime
Jadel has set Nikki and Kiron the task of clearing the hyperroute between Rishalt
and Europa. She foresees they will succeed in this task.
Please excuse my misuse of semicolons to fit 10
sentences.
Kiron glanced at Nikki for confirmation; his eyes widened in a
smile, and he caught hold of her hand. Turning to Jadel, he said, “Urish, we
will serve you as the Ramis Bell duad.”
“Your union has my blessing, and I have a special gift,” she
pursed her pale lips in a low whistle.
A patter of paws heralded a new arrival, a small luma with
blue-gray fur and a streak of white along its spine. It bounded to Nikki and
rose on its hind paws to sniff at her fingers. It wore a pearl-white collar
with a central zigzag line of silver and a triangle of tiny diamonds on the
top.
“This young luma is your gift,” Jadel sang.
“What a brilliant gift,” Nikki laughed in genuine delight.
Kiron bent down to offer his hand to the young luma; it
scrabbled its paws on his legs. He caught the luma in his arms and hugged it to
his chest where it clung to his jacket and licked his chin.
JUPITER:
A simple hop across hyperspace turns deadly,
crushing hopes for a human-Warrish alliance
Nikki and
Kiron Ramis Bell are studying the marine life of Rishalt when they are summoned
for an audience with the Prime. Tol-Jadel sets them the task of investigating a
hyperspace perturbation near Jupiter. They must return to the oceans of Europa
and prevent this anomaly from severing the hyperroutes between Earth and
Rishalt. But, tensions are rising between Warrish Watchers and the humans on
Galileo Station, and Earth’s governments are squabbling over the proposed
alliance with the aliens. Can Nikki and Kiron erase the obstacle before their
home planets are separated forever?
You can
learn how the couple met in Book 1, EUROPA.
As
advanced preparation for my next story, the first book in Atrapako on Eden is
on sale for 99c. I wrote The Lady is Blue about 3 decades ago and finally published it in 2014 at
the beginning of my career as an author.
SciFi Romance. Feisty scientist solves puzzle
of scaly aliens on the remote planet of Eden.
As always, I’ll be happy to reply to your
comments.
Aww, what a sweet gift! Makes me want a luma. :)
ReplyDeleteYes. Me too. And the luma will contribute to the story in different ways.
DeleteI love the description of the luma. I'd like one too!
ReplyDeleteHappy 2019!
Thank you and I hope you have an excellent year.
DeleteOh, I want one!! I love stories where creatures great and small place a part.
ReplyDeleteAnimals, including alien ones, are my speciality.
DeleteThe luma sounds adorable and it certainly makes for an interesting gift! Great snippet...
ReplyDeleteThanks - a pet with a special part to play.
DeleteSounds like a cute gift, but I assume a luma is rather more special than just a pet.
ReplyDeleteThe luma was trained by Jadel.
DeleteI'm picturing the luma's movements as doglike, perhaps because of licking the chin.
ReplyDeleteEarlier, I describe the lumas as resembling otters with gills like most vertebrates on Rishalt. Even cats will lick the chins of their people.
DeleteI want a luma!
ReplyDeleteAs long as they don't bark. (One of my dogs just barked/howled for no reason at all that I know of.)
This one didn't make any load noises during the story!
DeleteSuch a sweet pet. I'm wondering, though, if it has another purpose???
ReplyDeleteThis luma contributes to the story in several ways.
DeleteOooo I want a luma now! :D
ReplyDeleteI'm afraid you'll have to imagine one!
DeleteWhat a lovely gift, though I have a feeling this pet might be useful as well as cuddly.
ReplyDeleteYes, she is.
DeleteI want a luma too. Sounds so cute. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks!
DeleteAw, everyone should get a pet for the wedding. :D Great snippet, Aurora.
ReplyDeleteWe have several pets.
