Master Stimon is silent - Snippet from COSMIC LOCK for #WeWriWa

Welcome to another Sunday with Weekend Writing Warriors. Meet writers in various genres and read 8-10 sentence snippets of their stories. Find a new author and sample their work. Enjoy!
I hope you are all well and managing to find the supplies you need in this time of crisis.
I’m posting snippets from the first chapter of my new story, Cosmic Lock, the 6th book in the Grand Masters’ Galaxy. This series stars Violet Hunter and Athanor Griffin, Grand Masters who can teleport interstellar distances. They had left their 13-month old son, Varan, in the care of their old tutor, the White Mother Tingu, while they crossed the Cosmic Rift to rescue some abducted children. But when Violet goes to fetch Varan, she finds Tingu’s cottage in flames and fears her son is dead. She and Athanor have found their son in Master Stimon’s forge, a cave on the side of an erupting volcano.
The final line was: “An eruption induced by its master,” Athanor growled, “We are grateful, Stimon.”
Please excuse minor modifications to fit.

The Master Smith did not respond; he remained at the entrance, wholly focused on the roiling magma.
“Dada,” Varan tugged on his father’s hair, demanding attention.
Violet passed him to her psychic mate, while Athanor held his son, she went to the entrance to discover why Stimon was silent.
She stood next to the Master Smith, analyzing him with all her senses. Instead of reacting to her psi probe, his eyes were fixed on the blazing explosions in the crater as if he were mesmerized. She followed his gaze. Red streams of lava hissed beyond the entrance, yet the molten rocks arced safely overhead. Sheltered by an overhanging ledge, a skimmer was parked on the flat platform carved in the wall of the crater.
“Master Stimon,” she said, “can I help?”
He shifted on his feet and mumbled, “SHE is enraged and difficult to quieten.”

 Lock

Draft Blurb
Grand Masters Violet and Athanor Griffin return from beyond the Cosmic Rift with two shiploads of rescued children and escaped slaves, but their enemies have not been idle in their absence. Avalon is in flames and their little son is missing. Finding him may be the easiest problem for the powerful couple. They must unite the fractious Grand Masters, stop the bloodsucking Ixioths from enslaving sentients, and seal the Rift to prevent new incursions of the vindictive Nulls. Can they overcome the challenges and secure peace for the galaxy?

Cosmic Lock is on pre-order at Amazon
I hope to release it well before the listed date.

As always, I’ll be happy to reply to your comments.

    1. Who wouldn't be safe on a ledge in the crater of an erupting volcano!

  2. "She" is the volcano" Or another character who is using the volcano to voice her displeasure? Intriguing. :-)

  3. She seems like a dangerous arsonist. Maybe she needs some therapy for her anger issues. If she is the volcano that would be a lot of fun, probably not doable though. I wonder how they will calm her down.

  4. Well, I hope Violet is able to prove to him that she can help in the matter of the volcano.

    1. True. The volcanic eruption repelled their enemies.

  6. I assume that 'she' refers to the volcano. Not a good situation. Things seem to be getting 'hot' for Violet.

    1. Actually, it's Master Stimon who has the problem.

  7. Ooh, shivery excerpt. I could feel the heat and see the roiling magma from your description - terrific!

  8. You can't argue with Stimon. A volcano would be awfully darned hard to quiet down!

    1. Correct. But he needs a little help at the moment.

    1. They are safe, assuming the volcanic eruption can be calmed.

  10. Doesn't seem like a safe place to be, but it makes the story suspenseful. Great imagery in this snippet.

  11. Such a fiery snippet! The volcano spirit seems very angry. Does that have to do with the fact Master Stimon induced the eruption or the danger that befell the others?

  12. Don't mess with Mother Nature, she gets angry! Hope he can restore the lines of communication.
