Welcome to another
Sunday with Weekend Writing Warriors. Meet writers in various genres and read
8-10 sentence snippets of their stories. Find a new author and sample their
work. Enjoy!
I’m posting snippets
from the beginning of my new story, Cosmic Lock, the 6th book in the Grand
Masters’ Galaxy. This series
stars Violet Hunter and Athanor Griffin, Grand Masters who can teleport
interstellar distances. They had left their 13-month old son, Varan, in the
care of their old tutor, the White Mother Tingu, while they crossed the Cosmic
Rift to rescue some abducted children.
When Violet goes to
fetch Varan, she finds Tingu’s cottage in flames and fears her son is dead. Her
partner, Athanor, wakes her from a faint and indicates the unusual volcanic eruption.
Note: Master Stimon’s
forge is a cave on the side of the crater and is fueled by hot lava.
You can read last
week’s snippet at https://auroraspringer.blogspot.com/2020/02/master-stimons-work-snippet-from-cosmic.html
In the
last line, Violet says, “Master
Stimon’s work?”
Please
excuse some awkward punctuation to fit.
“Undoubtedly.” He cupped his
hands under her chin and his brilliant sapphire gaze bored into her eyes,
“Sweet Violet, you are attuned to the amethyst Varan wears; focus on his gem.”
Gathering her strength for a
second attempt, she flung her psi senses into Varan’s small crystal. On seeing red
flames and feeling blasts of heat, horror rebounded into her mind and she
cried, “I see fire.”
Athanor said, “We’ll port to
him.”
“Living or dead,” she whispered.
“Fix the location and I’ll shield
us,” he wrapped an arm around her waist and teleported to the site she had
pinpointed.
They emerged on a cool stone
floor with the volcano rumbling under their feet. Steel knives and iron pots
hung on racks on the wall. Her spirits brightened; they stood in the Master
Smith’s forge and she sensed Varan nearby.
Draft Blurb
Grand Masters Violet and Athanor Griffin return
from beyond the Cosmic Rift with two shiploads of rescued children and escaped
slaves, but their enemies have not been idle in their absence. Avalon is in
flames and their little son is missing. Finding him may be the easiest problem
for the powerful couple. They must unite the fractious Grand Masters, stop the
bloodsucking Ixioths from enslaving sentients, and seal the Rift to prevent new
incursions of the vindictive Nulls. Can they overcome the challenges and secure
peace for the galaxy?
Cosmic Lock is on

I
hope to release it well before the listed date.

always, I’ll be happy to reply to your comments.

This is tense! I hope their son is okay.
ReplyDeleteYou'll find out next time.
DeleteHer spirits brighten after teleporting to a volcano rumbling under their feet? To each their own. ;-)
ReplyDeleteShe's not afraid of the volcano and senses her son.
DeleteOut of one kind of fire, into another fire?? Uh Oh. Nice snippet.
ReplyDeleteA blacksmith needs a fire for the forge. Master Stimon uses the heat of the volcano for his work.
DeleteThat is a bit of a relief, but still, is their son okay?
ReplyDeleteSorry, 10 sentences was too short.
DeleteAt least they are in a familiar place and she senses her son is there. Altogether a better place than earlier when they didn't know. Great snippet! Tweeted.
ReplyDeleteCorrect. Thanks for tweeting.
DeleteWell that's some progress - whew! Enjoyed the snippet and how briskly the story is moving, but still with much to be explained and dealt with.
ReplyDeleteThank you. They still have to deal with their enemies.
DeleteStill have lots of questions--great to keep me turning the page.
ReplyDeleteThanks - that's the idea.
DeleteThere is always trouble and now she knows their child is well.
ReplyDeleteExactly.
DeleteOh I have got to get me one of those! Commuting would be a breeze. Great snippet, Aurora.
ReplyDeleteYou mean a teleporter? I agree.
DeleteMom and Dad to the rescue! At least they still sense him so they're in time!
ReplyDeleteYes. he is safe.
DeleteSuch an intriguing snippet! I love how protective he is of her. Hope they can both protect their most precious possession.
ReplyDeleteThe couple has survived a lot of troubles together.
DeleteI hope this is going to work out for them. We don't know why the child is at this particular location.
ReplyDeleteThey can guess.
DeleteTense! I haven't even read last week's, but with the intro and the description of the book, I had no problem following along. Well done!
ReplyDeleteGreat. Thank you.
DeleteI hope their son is okay! Keeping my fingers crossed.
ReplyDeleteHe's alive.
DeleteI'm glad she sensed Varan. He's okay then. Whew! I'm not sure about how safe they are right now, though. :-)
ReplyDeleteThat forge is a scary place.
