I’m continuing the
story in Cosmic Lock, the
sixth book in my epic science fantasy series. At present, I am plodding through
edits/rewriting the current draft of the book.

I have skipped to
another early chapter with a new set of characters. Violet is taking her baby
son to visit their dragon friends on the hot planet of Sythos. Both Violet and
her son are wearing protective suits and helmets due to the high temperatures
and high levels of oxygen in the atmosphere. Volcanic vents and fires are
common on this planet.
Violet and her son emerged on the
ledge at the entrance to the Black Dragon’s eyrie, a tall solitary crag
protruding from the orange sands of a desert. Far overhead, flashes of
lightning flickered in the murky red clouds of Sythos.
Startled by their sudden
appearance, the watch dragon spread its wings, reared and hissed a warning. An
instant later, the dragon recognized the visitor and hissed, “Zyzost Violet, do
you wish to see the Black Dragon?”
Violet said, “Please tell Ythris
the Black that I’ve brought my son to play with golden Istros.”
The brown dragon swiveled toward
the dark entrance, bent its long neck into the tunnel and uttered a shrill
whistle.
The scratching of claws on the
stone passage preceded the hasty arrival of a small umber-scaled dragon with
outstretched wings. It folded its wings and tilted its head in a question.
Varan cooed in appreciation and
waved his arms. Alarmed by the excited baby, the small messenger fluttered its
wings and shuffled backward.
End of my ten lines, and a few more follow.
The watch dragon relayed Violet’s
message.
“I’ll fly on your command.”
Instantly, the small dragon whipped its wings, rose above the floor and dived
into the tunnel.
No more than five minutes later,
Violet detected the approach of her friend, Ythris.
Draft Blurb
Grand Masters Violet and Athanor Griffin return
from beyond the Cosmic Rift with two shiploads of rescued children and escaped
slaves, but their enemies have not been idle in their absence. Avalon is in
flames and their little son is missing. Finding him may be the easiest problem
for the powerful couple. They must unite the fractious Grand Masters, stop the
bloodsucking Ixioths from enslaving sentients, and seal the Rift to prevent new
incursions of the vindictive Nulls. Can they overcome the challenges and secure
peace for the galaxy?
I
hope to release it well before the listed date.
The first book in this series, Grand Master’s
Pawn, will be 99c this month.
Epic SciFi / Fantasy Adventure and Romance
Five star review: This the first novel of the Grand Master trilogy and has
the reader on the edge of their seat gasping with pleasure and amazement over
the feats of wonder as the new Pawn of an initially fierce new master. Follow
her exploits as she teleports across the galaxy at the behest of an enigmatic
employer.
For refugees from an overcrowded Earth, dreams of a better
life on an alien planet transform into a terrifying battle for survival.
As
always, I’ll be happy to reply to your comments.

ReplyDeleteToddlers are cute.
DeleteThis is quite a playmate!
ReplyDeleteThe messenger dragon is not his playmate. It's the son of the Black Dragon.
DeleteA play date! With a dragon! Love it, Aurora.
ReplyDeleteThe two families have a history of helping each other. It started when Violet saved Ythris' life and helped him win his bride despite the opposition of her father, the chief dragonlord.
