Welcome to another Sunday
with Weekend Writing Warriors.
Here, writers in different genres showcase their stories with 8-10 sentences.
Join the fun and read our snippets.
Today, I’ll continue the teaser
scene from my new release, Super Starrella. Estelle was knocked unconscious in
an explosion. When she woke, she was tied down in a weird cylinder and heard
strangers discussing her. Then, a woman entered and gave her a drink. Read last
week’s snippet here:

The second time she woke, Estelle
grew angry, remembering what Dr. Netta had done. They had drugged her; she had
to escape from this peculiar Clinic. This time, the transparent cylinder had
vanished and she lay on what appeared to be a regular hospital bed. Her
strength restored, Estelle sat up and slipped her legs over the edge of the bed.
She waited, listening for any
sound from her captors; all was quiet.
Gathering her courage, Estelle padded
round the room and opened the cabinets, one by one. Her clothes hung in a tall
cabinet on the back wall, next to a bright blue leotard and matching leggings. A
shiver of certainty ran down her spine. As a child, Estelle had dreamed of
being her favorite comic book character, Super Starrella, and flying across the
sky chasing villains. If she wore the costume, her name would be Starrella.

Blurb
Teen
superhero, Starrella, and her flying horse tackle villains in the skies of
Atalanta.
The
quiet summer before her freshman year turns frighteningly weird after Estelle Wright
trespasses onto an Army base. Blown into the air and knocked unconscious, she
wakes with a nascent superpower. Not to mention a winged horse with a snarky
attitude and a mind of her own.
Back
home in Atalanta, a serial killer is targeting the students at Goldman
University. Before long she must juggle college classes with sneaking out of
the house after dark to battle alien monsters. Estelle’s life is in danger, but
who can she trust: handsome Captain Copper from military intelligence, or hunky
Toby, the tough gangster with a motorbike? Both men have secret agendas, but
falling in love is not in their plans.
Young
adult superheroes, quirky animal sidekicks, and a dash of romance enliven this thrilling
adventure. Book 1 of the Secret Supers.
Soon, I'll switch to the next book in this series, which is coming together slowly.

I think her childhood dream is about to come true! :-)
ReplyDeleteYes! With a twist or two.
DeleteOMW! How exciting to actually have one's dreams come true!
ReplyDeleteYes, although it is not so simple.
DeleteI find it interesting the leotard happened to be hanging there with her clothes. Will she put it on as she'd dreamed? Interesting snippet!
ReplyDeleteIt was left for her.
DeleteHum, that's sort of strange that they have put a costume there. Is there a possibilities that they read her dreams to give her exactly what she wanted?
ReplyDeleteNo. They left the costume. She chose the name, although if you read the book carefully, there is a hint that other people read the same comics.
DeleteOh that makes sense.
DeleteI was wondering the same thing as Jessica and Linda. Fun!
ReplyDeleteAll deliberate.
DeleteI'm with everyone before me ... a dream coming true soon, I'd say
ReplyDeleteWell, at this point, she has a pretty costume.
Delete"A shiver of certainty ran down her spine." - love this line!
ReplyDeleteExcellent snippet Aurora. I am really enjoying this story.
And thus, a superhero is born! Fun snippet. Enjoyed it.
ReplyDeleteNot quite - just the costume - but it's a start.
DeleteI love the fun element of excitement in the middle of the scary situation. Great snippet!
ReplyDelete~Joyce Scarbrough
Thanks!
DeleteNow THAT is very interesting indeed, to find her childhood superhero costume, adult version. Loved it!
ReplyDeleteThe people who provided the costume don't know about her childhood dreams. The nanosuits are standard issue to new supers as you may learn next week.
DeleteHmm, sounds like it's time to fulfill her destiny!
ReplyDeleteIt's just a costume!
DeleteGreat snippet! I wish I would wake up and find a superhero costume...
ReplyDeleteOr even superpowers without the costume!
DeleteHmm. Gotta wonder how these mysterious folks knew about her childhood fixation on Super Starella. Methinks they may have some superpowers of their own.
ReplyDeleteThey activate superpowers. They don't know about her childhood dream.
DeleteI love her title. I bet some dreams are about to come true.
ReplyDeleteLive the dream, Baby!
ReplyDeleteYes, she'll fly!
DeleteA chance to have her dreams come true! But what will the consequences be, I wonder...
ReplyDeleteShe's working on answers in book 2!
DeleteGo Estelle! Look forward to seeing what she does next...
ReplyDeleteWell, I'm skipping to another scene this week.
