A taboo? - Snippet from COSMIC WARS for #WeWriWa #SciFi

Welcome to another Sunday with Weekend Writing Warriors. Meet writers in various genres and read 8-10 sentence snippets of their stories. Find a new author and sample their work. Enjoy!

This weekend, I’m continuing a scene from my latest release, Cosmic Wars, Book 5 of the Grand Masters’ Galaxy.
The Griffins, Violet, Athanor, and their son, Varan, are at home when their dragon friends visit with their baby, Istros.
I’ve skipped to a little later in the chapter. Excuse my misuse of semicolons.

While the baby dragon and boy splashed in the shallow water of the stream, Violet described the planet of Gorland and its inhabitants; she concluded, “The Nulls, like dragons, are immune to our zyzost powers.”
Athanor growled, “They have joined forces with the Ixioths in our galaxy to invade remote planets and capture new slaves.”
“The fate of Vrons lies out of the claws of dragons,” Ythris hissed, rattling his scales in displeasure.
The scales,” Violet sent.
You phrase the request, my persuasive wife.”
She rolled her eyes at Athanor, and turned to face the Black Dragon, “We have a question for you, Ythris.”
“A Zyzost Vron may ask,” His great golden eyes glinted in sudden interest.
“Master Smith Stimon suggested dragon’s scales might be impervious to the Nulls’ weapons.”
Ythris rattled his scales, while Istrelle stilled.
The dragons’ flare of emotions made Violet hesitate; had she overstepped a boundary?

    1. Few people have seen the dragons' planet of Sythos since The dragons distrust foreigners.

  2. It's so cute that the young ones are playing together while the adults's talk turns serious.

  3. Babies playing! Doesn't matter that they aren't the same species. The young are so smart. Plus, dragons!

    1. Yes, she's stuck her foot in it, metaphorically.

  8. I guess I’d be a bit careful too, while negotiating with a somewhat cranky dragon!

    1. He's not really cranky, but his people don't like humans or vrons in their language. Zyzost powers are also taboo, which is strange since dragons have some of their own supernatural talents.

  11. Love when babies play together. They don't see differences. Some serious talk there among the adults. I hope the dragons can & will help.
