What's the Plan? Snippet from #Superhero story for #WeWriWa

Welcome to another Sunday with Weekend Writing Warriors. Meet writers in various genres and read 8-10 sentence snippets of their stories. Find a new author and sample their work. Enjoy!

I’m running snippets from an unpublished short story in my superhero series. Once the latest draft is settled, I’ll move on to snippets from my next (hopefully) SciFi novel.

Background: After Estelle joined their table, Toby, the leader of the Jags gang and the Secret Supers, explained that Gecko’s baby sister is missing. The only clue is the school bus driver’s description of a woman who met the girl.
The final line was: Toby said, “Know it’s not much, but she’s the only hint we have.”

Please excuse my misuse of semicolons to fit.

“What’s the plan, Big Jag,” Gecko asked.
Toby quirked a black eyebrow; “Do you have a photo of the girl?”
Gecko scrolled through the images on his phone. “Here’s Juliana,” he showed them a headshot of a girl with big dark eyes and a shy, gap-toothed smile.
Capturing the image with the special Farleon app on his phone, Toby said, “I’ll send you guys a copy. Don’t give ‘em away; we’ll keep this search private.” He drummed his knuckles on the tabletop; “Night patrols, and we stop to question street kids.” Shrugging, he added, “Not my greatest plan, but we have to find the kid before she gets in trouble. Reckon the cops can do the major leg work.” He looked at the Jags; “Ideas, anyone else?”

 Secret Supers

You can read about Estelle, Toby and the other Supers in my Secret Supers books. http://www.auroraspringer.org/p/secret-supers.html

 Pawn

Grand Master’s Pawn is 99c until October 14th
Reviewed by TheRomanceReviews.com - “I enjoyed this story. The world building made me use my imagination and it was truly beautiful. I traveled with Violet Hunter as she completed each mission for her Grand Master, the Griffin, while trying to discover his motives for the missions. Each mission, more dangerous than the last, helped me understand the Griffin more and the dangers of greed and the ambitions of others.”

As always, I’ll be happy to reply to your comments.
Please return to www.wewriwa.com to sample the works of the other writers.

  1. I hope once they get to work they find her quickly.

  2. They need some sort of superhero 'finder of lost persons' device. Alternatively, the police can do the legwork.

    1. The Secret Supers have a contact in police headquarters, but the cops are baffled.

  3. Not sure keeping the search private is the best strategy but I'm also sure there's a lot more plot here than we can know from just the snippets. Which the snippets are very effective at raising curiosity about the entire tale! Well done...

    1. Sorry - well, only a little sorry since I wanted to raise a serious problem.

  5. Hope it doesn't take them long to locate her! Great use of technology in the snippet.

    1. A few days in the current short version, but probably longer if I convert it into a novella or full-length novel. The story is set in modern times, but Toby has access to alien technology.

  8. The police will do their thing, but I think this "gang" knows the streets and might get more accomplished doing it their own way. Good snippet, Aurora. :-)

  9. Street kids would probably be more willing to talk to them than to the cops.

    1. Yes. It means night flights on Rockette the snarky winged horse.
