Welcome to another Sunday with Weekend Writing Warriors. Meet writers in various genres and read 8-10 sentence snippets of their stories. Find a new author and sample their work. Enjoy!
I’m continuing my new story, Trapped on Vkani, book 3 in my series Atrapako on Eden. You can read about the planets and their inhabitants in my Blog Post HERE.
Maya and her team had planned to explore the ruins of an ancient civilization in the radioactive Deadlands of Vkani. But a sandstorm buried their shuttle under a thick layer of sand, and they had to dig to the surface to call for help. Maya was pulled out of the sand by a blue scaled alien with curved claws. Jack, is dead, but the two other members of her team are alive.
Some people were
confused about the colors. Blue scales indicate a leader. Greens have technical
skills, massively built Reds are laborers and warriors. Everyone else has
Yellow scales.
You can read last
week’s snippet at https://auroraspringer.blogspot.com/2019/03/spokesperson-snippet-from-trapped-for.html
Maya has just learned
the name (Sa Vittaran) and gender (Male) of the blue scaled alien.
I have skipped a couple
of lines and altered punctuation to fit.
A noise
from the ruins drew his attention away from her.
A
green-cloaked Atrapako and another Red climbed over the broken wall; the Green
had a bag slung over its shoulder and the Red toted a bulging sack. Maya
guessed they had been looting valuables from the underground chambers of the
ancient city. The Red strode to the large beasts and emptied the contents of
the sack into one of the panniers. Selecting a crossbow, it turned to aim the
bolt straight at her.
The Green
halted, flung back its hood and stared at the strangers. Pointing a green claw
at Maya, it asked hesitantly, “Sa Vittaran, who are these people? Where did
they come from?”
“Foreigners,”
the Blue said cryptically. “Collect their weapons.”
Marooned
on a desolate planet, joining forces with the enemy is their only hope.

That doesn't sound good. Let's hope she'll be okay.
ReplyDeleteHe'll keep her alive, but he can't afford to compromise the safety of his people.
DeleteDoesn't seem like this is a good development.
ReplyDeleteHe's taking standard precautions in a land where anybody might be hostile.
DeleteFrom the way these guys reacted, I guess she's lucky Sa Vittaran was the one who found her.
ReplyDeleteExactly. He's tied her wrist, but hasn't hurt her. He arranged for her two companions to be pulled out of the sand and restrained.
DeleteI agree with Ed. If it had been a red who spotted her first, I don't think she'd still be alive.
ReplyDeleteIt would depend on whether the Red thought she was attacking.
DeleteAnd the odds get even more stacked against her...can't wait for more, enjoyed the snippet!
ReplyDeleteTrue, although her team doesn't really have weapons. Unlike Sa Vittaran, they didn't expect to meet any enemies.
DeleteGood thing you explain the colors first. I forget from week to week. :) She is not in a good place. I hope the Blue protects her.
ReplyDeleteActually he does, although she may not realize at first. He is in charge of the other Atrapako.
DeleteFrom bad to worse!
ReplyDeleteTrue, especially since he isn't repeating her explanation of coming from another world.
DeleteI'm curious to see what happens next.
ReplyDeleteGood! This story has a lot of action.
DeleteOoh, that would be the worst. I perilous situation--and giving up your weapons... Good snippet, Aurora!
ReplyDeleteHe's not taking any chances.
DeleteOh dear, that's not going to go well. Good snippet, Aurora.
ReplyDeleteNo. She is trapped on the planet.
