Poisonous Croaker: Snippet from Starrella Falls for #WeWriWa #Superhero Mystery & Romance

Welcome to another Sunday with Weekend Writing Warriors. Here, writers in different genres showcase their stories with 8-10 sentences. Join the fun and read our snippets.

Today, I’m continuing the scene from my new release: Starrella Falls, Book 2 in the Secret Supers. You can read the first chapters HERE. I may be slow to read your snippets since I’ll be driving to a scientific conference on Sunday.

Background: Toby and Estelle are having dinner in their first real date for several weeks, when Estelle recognizes a man who walks into the pub. Toby says Croaker is dangerous so they leave by the rear exit.
A little background for this scene: At the beginning of the book, Toby’s fear that Estelle will be identified by their enemies leads to complications. But now, he has been recognized by Croaker.
The final sentence was: Croaker stood facing them.

When they stepped outside, Toby gestured for Estelle to wait where she would be concealed behind the door. “Let him spot me first.” He walked to his motorcycle and bent on one knee, pretending to examine the front tire.
The man came out and focused on Toby. His face twisted in an evil smirk and he raised his hand. A needle point glinted. Estelle blazed at his fingers.
He dropped the dart, cried a Zarnoth curse and lunged at Estelle.

  8. Hopefully that wasn't too early an ambush and they can handle this. I think she should have waited until he was a little closer to Toby and gotten him from behind completely, then he couldn't have lunged for her if there was enough distance.

  14. I'm beginning to doubt Croaker's intellect. I'm not sure I'd lunge at someone who is shooting flames at me.
