Students at Goldman University - Snippet from Super Starrella for #WeWriWa

Welcome to another Sunday with Weekend Writing Warriors. Here, writers in different genres showcase their stories with 8-10 sentences. Join the fun and read our snippets.
Happy Mother’s Day!
If you enjoy Science Fiction and Fantasy, look at the Super Sale at the end of this post.
My story has no scenes to celebrate motherhood, so I’ll give you another glimpse of Toby. You remember Toby – the tough with the tattoo of a black cat leaping up his biceps. Estelle met him over the summer and heard his voice when she was pinned in a weird cylinder. (Some creative punctuation to fit.)

Scanning the other students, Diane nudged Estelle and nodded towards the Engineering building on the other side of the lawn, “Look at that hunk!”
Following Diane’s gaze, Estelle inhaled sharply; Toby! Running down the steps from the entrance, his black garb and powerful build stuck out among the nerdy crowd of engineering students. He strode across the lawn in their direction. Blushing, Estelle said, “I’ve met him; he rode a motorbike on the trails near my uncle’s farm.”
Diane said, “With muscles like that, he must lift weights or wrestle. Come on, let’s say hello.” Tugging on Estelle’s hand, Diane stepped off the path and angled towards Toby. After a second of hesitation, curiosity bit Estelle. What was Toby doing at Goldman University?

Blurb
Teen superhero, Starrella, and her flying horse tackle villains in the skies of Atalanta.
The quiet summer before her freshman year turns frighteningly weird after Estelle Wright trespasses onto an Army base. Blown into the air and knocked unconscious, she wakes with a nascent superpower. Not to mention a winged horse with a snarky attitude and a mind of her own.
Back home in Atalanta, a serial killer is targeting the students at Goldman University. Before long she must juggle college classes with sneaking out of the house after dark to battle alien monsters. Estelle’s life is in danger, but who can she trust: handsome Captain Copper from military intelligence, or hunky Toby, the tough gangster with a motorbike? Both men have secret agendas, but falling in love is not in their plans.
Young adult superheroes, quirky animal sidekicks, and a dash of romance enliven this thrilling adventure. Book 1 of the Secret Supers.

    1. He is certainly keeping an eye on her. But she has already found the "trouble".

  11. While one girl is in 'lovestruck' mode, the other is confused and wondering. Nice juxtaposition.

I also enjoyed the 'nerdy engineering students' line, because it reminded me of #3 son, an engineer (now an urban planner) -- 6'5" and one of several fitness fanatics in his engineering class.
